Fairy "Tales"

Great people, good weather, tasty snacks, a unique location and, oh yes,
the fairies all contributed to the fantastic success of our
first ever Fairy Open House, July 28-29.

Terry & Teresa's House
& Studio

Over 100 Fairy Friends and Guests attended from as far away as Ottawa, Mississauga, Newmarket and Phelpston. Mounds of home baked Fairy Cookies were consumed along with fairy-blessed County cheese and wine.

Our largest ever in house fairy display was laid out including a preview of many new additions as well as a number of One of a Kind Fairies. It was definitely a feast for the eye.

Brutus greets visitors
Those who were interested saw where the porcelain work starts and the kiln where all the fairy parts and pieces are fired. After much tidying, the fairy workshop was also on display and people could see all the components that go into the creation of their fairies. Some of our fairy friends brought their own ideas and custom fairies were created just for them.

But mostly it was about visiting, great stories and laughter. There was even a little Fairy Mischief thrown in. So thank you all for attending and contributing to our first Fairy Open House. Planning is already underway for an even bigger and better Open House in 2008.

Special thanks to Linda B. for taking pictures.

Finding Felix Continued
By Dr. Win Mellor-Hay

Eryn is taking part in the dangerous rescue mission for Felix. What does fate have in store for these two young fairies?

They made it through the North Forest in record time, everyone’s mind on the mission ahead. They paused slightly at the start of Silent Meadow. Eryn had some trouble flying at first because she wasn’t used to the weight of the suit and it kept throwing her off-balance. She was a novice flyer, only having started two years ago when her wings opened. It took fairies quite a few years to master the art.

Once the group of twelve flew over a grassy knoll in the meadow, the team members could see the Pixie forest ahead. It was still some distance away, but their apprehension grew as they neared the woods. Eryn kept thinking about little Felix and how he might have navigated Silent Meadow on his own. She looked down at the meadow occasionally and saw the Silent Snakes leaping up off the grass to try to bite them. She shuddered and prayed that her wings’ strength would last the whole flight.

They came to rest just inside the edge of the forest. The fairies removed their protective glasses and looked around. The forest looked pleasant and ordinary enough. The Senior Elder looked at Eryn and she took the lead. He sent a security fairy up to walk beside her just in case of danger. Eryn walked, letting her mind lead her intuitively. As she walked forward, she could feel that they were getting closer to Felix.

The razor-flap trees looked completely harmless, but every once in a while you could hear a "thwap" sound like someone swatting at an insect. The razor-sharp leaves managed to slice cuts right through their protective suits. The Senior Elder told them to stay on the path, as tangle-vine snarled the ground everywhere else. Fifteen minutes into the forest they were hot and irritated by the slits from the trees. They started to hear sniffles, like the sound of a child crying. "Felix?" Eryn called out and the sniffling sound stopped. "Hello?" a young child’s voice rang out in its place. "Felix: is that you? We’re coming for you, Felix! Just hold on, okay?" Eryn called and increased her walking speed. "I’m over here!" he called. "Watch out for the tangle-vine. It’s really strong. And duck under the dream-sweet boughs! They’ll put you to sleep!" "The what?" the fairy walking beside her queried just as they rounded a cur

The vines were so tightly wrapped around his arms, he hadn’t been able even to wipe his tears away. She made a move towards him and Felix shouted out: "Stop! Eryn, don’t get caught in the tangle-vines! I don’t think you can pull them apart! They’re so strong!" Eryn paused before she stepped toward Felix. She looked at the insidious vine suspiciously. She picked up a twig and poked it down toward the ground where she almost stepped. The tangle-vine pulsed and leapt toward the twig, slipping its eely green fingers around it noiselessly. Within seconds the twig was yanked out of Eryn’s hand and disappeared under the dense growth of tangle-vine. "What can I do?" Eryn, asked Felix, dismayed to have come this far and now not be able to free the little boy. "The others have all gone to sleep from the dream-sweet boughs."

"Oh dear," Felix said miserably. "Now I’ve brought all of you into this mess." "Don’t worry about it, Felix. At least we’ve found you! And we will get you free." "Well, we better be quick about it. We have to drag those others out of the forest before the tangle-vine gets them."

"They’re on the path –" Eryn started. "Doesn’t matter. If they lie still long enough, the tangle-vine will creep right onto the path and capture them."

Eryn looked at little Felix sadly. He was so frightened and remorseful. She knew she had to do something quickly before his spirits sank again. She started looking through the pockets of her protective suit for anything she could use. Maybe there would be rope, or a torch ….

Felix interrupted: "Eryn. There is something you can try." Eryn looked at Felix hopefully. He started again, very humbly: "The reason I came to this forest is because of a certain bush. It’s called the squirt-berry bush –" "Oh! I’ve heard of that!" Eryn exclaimed.

"I read about it, while I was researching magic. I was convinced that if I could get some squirt-berries and eat them, I could make my magic come in early. So I found out how to get to this forest and I had just started looking for them when the vine got me. I’ve been lying here ever since. "

"Oh Felix. You were so determined to get your magic early! You have to just wait and let Nature take its course!" "Yeah. I realize that now, Eryn. Some things aren’t meant to be rushed. If I were a little smarter I’d never have risked the hazards of this forest and gotten everyone so worried about me.

Will Eryn be able to free Felix and save the rest of the Fairy search party?

Wynter, The Fairy Ice Queen

A Piece of Sky
By Paolina Calabro, Nepean, Ontario

Petra was a young fairy who had yet to use her wings. She spent a great deal of her time staring at the sky from the small window in her room but too scared to venture out and take to the sky which she was so fond of. One particularly A Piece of Skyglorious day, Petra decided to walk around the fairy hollow amongst the fragrant flora and bright blue sky. She saw other fairies her age take flight and soar amongst the twinkling blue sky and thought if they could soar why then shouldn’t she? The young fairy climbed up to the highest perch she could find and flung herself to the heavens. When she tried to use her wings, she was terrified to see that they were not working and as she fell from the sky wings fraying and tears flowing from her face, she vowed she would never again attempt to use the wings which had hurt her so.

Time passed and Petra remained steadfast in her decision; she didn’t like falling and therefore remained in her room staring at the sky safe from harm. She spent every day trying to figure out and understand why her wings didn’t work and what she was meant to be and do. At night, when the sky darkened and it was full of twinkling stars, Petra would wish on the stars for the answers to her most pressing questions. After more time passed, Petra tired of being stuck to the ground while all of the other young fairies took to the sky. They were so happy and free and she longed for that freedom and to be part of that ever expansive blue sky that seemed to go on for an eternity. She gathered herself scars and all and climbed back up the tree of her first attempt. She braced herself for the fact that she might fall again but at least attempting to fly would be so much better than just watching. She closed her eyes and jumped and to her amazement began to fly. She realized at this moment that with all there

Felicity

It is said that Felicity was flying over a volcano that suddenly erupted in a magnificent cavalcade of colour. Felicity was caught in the middle of it and her whole body and outfit was transformed. When she finally got a look at herself in a quiet pool of water her laughter also erupted wild and free. From that day forward she set out to celebrate every day and she teaches us to laugh and play. Felicity’s dress is made up of tendrils of colour and sparkle. She wears a bright blue legging on one leg and yellow on the other. She has dainty red leather shoes decorated with rosebuds. Felicity’s crowning glory is her vibrant multihued hair and iridescent colourful wings.
