Since the beginning of time there has been a great mystique about islands. The fairy realm is said to favor islands and the doorways to fairy kingdoms are found on islands.
Legend has it that on the isle of Avalon King Author was brought mortally wounded where he was tended by four fairy queens. It is believed that he and his knights lie in the heart of a fairy hill in a deep sleep to awake in our hour of need to rule the land.
The isle of Avalon is part of the Fortunate isles and lies in the great western sea just beyond the setting sun. Some of these islands float and some are submerged but all are said to be land where happiness and peace abound. Spring is constant and aging, disease and work are things of the past. It is said to enjoy these delights you must find a doorway on one of these islands and pass through to the fairy realm.
Thousands of years ago during a great storm, the isles were scattered throughout the globe. Many have since been discovered and are rich in fairy lore. Perhaps three of the most famous are Ireland, Isle of Man and Iceland. There are many others.

Perhaps it is fate that Fables, Fantasy & Fairy Tales has its home on an island, Prince Edward County, the only Island County in Canada. Could the doorway to the fairy realm be right here? It has been suggested that there are many doorways to the fairy realm so be at-tentive when you walk in nature, as you never know what you may find

Fairies are indisputably the worlds greatest practical jokers and pranksters.
They punish lazy and dishonest people with cramps, pinching or even worse. Until you get a dream fairy, placing your shoes with the toes pointed away from the bed or putting a sock under the bed will protect you from fairy pranks at night. |

As promised in our last newsletter, here is the interview with the fairy Tuath De Danann who has such an extensive knowledge of fairy lore. The interview is conducted by Treflow the wizard.
Part One.
Q. What is a Deva?
A. She is the final evolved form of a fairy. "The Shining Ones". When seen they appear to radiate a golden or iridescent light. She reveals herself to humans by causing their skin to tingle when she is close by.
Q. What are Sea Sprites?
A. They are fairies that can be seen glittering like jewels just below the surface of the water just beyond the shore break. They have an energy of happiness and the spirit of a gypsy roaming and free.
Q. Are all fairies good?
A. Most are in the sense that if treated well they can bring good health and riches to their human friends but they are noted for being very mischievous.
Q. Who or what is Atir?
A. If 99% of the fairy realm are good, she is the other 1%. She has an evil nature and her appearance and odor reflect that. She and her offspring attempt to clone the good fairies and lure mortals into taking these fairies into their home only to bring them pain and misfortune. Beware Atir and her clones! Do not take them in.
