To all our American friends and to all others who were touched by the terror of September 11, please know that our prayers and hopes are with you in this time of tremendous loss. We all must pause to remember, agree never to forget and go forward with our heads held high knowing that in time our hearts will heal and we will not be overcome.

We at Fables, Fantasy & Fairy Tales have had the privilege many times of seeing the healing power of fairies. In this spirit we would like to share with you a story we received from one of our customers who let us know how our work has helped her to heal some of her own childhood wounds. We have edited it for space and reprint it with her permission. This story may not be suitable for the very young or very tender hearted.

…I wanted to let you and Teresa know just how special it was for me to find your web page and your beautiful faeries. As a child I went through a lot of traumatic abuse, physically, sexually, and emotionally, however, I have managed to survive, and feel very lucky that I had the strength and courage to get myself to the place I am today. People are always telling me how wise, "together", and insightful I am, and want to know how I got to be that way. In fact, my therapist will shake her head at me, and then tell me how amazed she is that I have come so far all on my own.

So occasionally I will look back, however unpleasant it may be, and try to answer those questions..... how did I make it through? how was I so lucky to be healthy, and to be a survivor? I was so small and defenseless when I was a child, how did I manage to do it? Well, until the other day, when I stumbled upon your web site, I figured it was just "luck", that is until I saw the picture of Enchanted Discovery. As I stared at this beautiful child seeing her very first faery, it brought tears to my eyes, tears that I haven't been able to cry for a very long time, in fact, it's the one thing that I wasn't able to fix by myself, and that is what I've been working on with my therapist (being able to experience certain emotions, and let myself cry). Although I have a lot of memories from my childhood, there are a lot that are missing and this one piece, Enchanted Discovery, took me back to one of the places I had forgotten, my garden of faeries.

When I was a child, I had a secret garden (I called it this, even though nothing actually grew in it), and my garden was filled with faeries. The faeries in my garden would take me on all sorts of adventures, they told me their secrets, and I told them mine. Even when I couldn't see them, I knew they were there, watching me play with my dolls, digging holes in "my garden", but mostly, I remember them sitting on the edge of my bed at night, not just watching, but watching over me. They were the prickle on the back of my neck to let me know something was wrong, they were the "something" that woke me in the middle of the night in just enough time to go hide before "that person" entered my room looking to harm me, and knowing they were there gave me the strength and courage to finally stand up to the people who were hurting me, and to learn how to take care of myself.

It's been a long time since I've thought about them, or even remembered that they had been there for me when I needed them most. The faeries helped me through some of the roughest times of my childhood, and the more I think about it, they probably saved my life. Although I can't say I've seen any for quite some time now, I'm sure they've been here all along, and now that I remember I will be keeping an open eye, and mind, in hopes that I may see them again sometime.

Fairy Sounds
By Yasmine B, Ottawa, Ontario
13 years old, fairy fan

The music of tiny Wings,
The pitter patter of Small Feet,
The feeling you are Not alone,
Fairies are nearby.

The faint glow of Something magic,
A hint that Someone's there,
A beauty you can Only sense,
Fairies are nearby.

Fairies are there
When the sun rises and sets,
And when the stars and moon come out,
Fairies are always nearby.

That peaceful presence is always there
Remaining secret and unseen,
That is the whimsical beauty of it,
Of those magical enchanted beings.

Fairy Facts

Fairies were here before the age of reason and thus defy description but non-believers are met with their mischief as a way to enlighten them. Cows are favorite targets of fairy pranks.

Not believe in Santa Claus?

You might as well not believe in fairies… "

There have been few sightings, however only the very early birds have been able to see them, as they have been anxious to find new homes. We expect some more will appear this Christmas.

The dancing, the celebrating and the enjoyment of the festive season create a magic atmosphere for those around her.

With her plum coloured silk dress shimmering with glass glitter and a sparkled tulle underskirt, one can easily imagine how our Sugar Plum Fairy would dance and flit on a mid winter's breeze. Her gossamer purple wings are faceted with colour like the wings of a dragonfly. On her dress and in her hair she wears a candy corsage accented with tiny fairy size sugar plums and holly.

The Sugar Plum Fairy will add colour and spirit to your Holiday celebrations. She brings with her peace, hope and joy!

The First Fairy By Yasmine B, Ottawa, Ontario - 13 years old

One night, thousands of years ago, a tiny little star was born. As days and weeks and months passed, the little star grew and burned brighter and brighter. Soon enough, it was the brightest star of all. It shone with indescribable rays of gold and silver, lighting up the night's sky, practically on its own.

There was something magical about that star. In and out of years it continued to shine, until one night, it grew tired. It started to dim, then flicker. Suddenly, it started falling, soaring through the air with unimaginable speed.

As the star began to reach the ground, it exploded, bursts of color sent flying. The magic star had died out. In its place, the first fairy was born.
